VICE COMMODORE, Jack Lobaido Wow I can’t believe April is already over. Every year we honor the first person who gets his boat in the water and docks at Mariner’s. This years winner is Captain Joe. I am docking next to him this year so I know that I will always here that he was the first. By the time you read this the Commodore’s Ball will have already taken place. This years Ball was held at the Mirage, in Clinton Township. We honored our Commodore John Leslie and his lady Joyce. What a great time by all with just over one hundred people attending. The Crown was flowing, the dinner was excellent, and the band played allot of great music. The next day on Saturday in the evening we had a afterglow party at Mariners, however we really had a 25th Wedding anniversary party for Harvey and Mary. Can you believe Mary has put up with him all these years, just kidding. The Bar is running along smoothly and is great very good business. We have daily beer specials, and when the Red Wings and the Pistons are playing, all drinks are Fifty Cents off during the games. Anyone interested in sponsoring a Tiki Party please see myself, Harvey or Mike Napior for available dates. Finally our Fleet Captain, Don Ruma has his application forms for his Rendezvous at Algonac Club please sign up early and lets have fun at Algonac. Vice Commodore Jack Lobaido Page

Here we are in May; the boats are finding their way back to their summer homes on the water, and soon the 2008 boating season will in full swing. This is an exciting time of year as we all get re-acquainted with an activity that unites us as a club and that we all treasure … boating on Lake St. Clair.

We had an excellent turnout for our 2008 Spring Clean-Up on April 12TH.

Thanks to all who participate and to those that contributed by other means.

The day went well, in spite of a few set-backs. Denise worked with the crew

inside who left no stone unturned with regard to dusting and polishing. Outside, we were able to power wash the decks, docks and picnic tables, pull out few unruly bushes, clean up the debris left from last fall and winter, and do some light maintenance on the building. However, we still need to stain the deck and picnic tables before flag raising. Please give me a call if you can help out in the next couple weeks. Following our day’s work we all relaxed with pizza and a couple beers. When Mariners work together we accomplish a lot.

So far a handful of Mariners have signed up for the June rendezvous at Algonac Harbor Club. Remember to sign-up and pay by June 1ST for a $5.00 per person saving. The flyer for the Mardi Gras Shakedown Cruise is provided again in this month’s Siren. In addition to providing information on the form, each boat captain will need to contact Algonac Harbor Club to reserve a well.

The details for the Harbor Hill and Sarnia Bay rendezvous are being finalized; when the plans are settled, flyers will be available at the club and on the web.

That’s it for now. See you around the Club!

New Member Recruitment, Chairman John Razumich

You probably want to know what we have done so far to increase our membership. I will tell you what we have done, please tell me what you have done. That’s right each and every one of us should be actively recruiting membership in our community, work, marina, church ect.

Here are the bullet points leading up to our open house.

Printed $2,700 in literature and $1,000 in fees to attend the Detroit Boat Show at Cobo hall Accumulated 170 email addresses and sent them out prior to each open house. Attended the Mac Ray open house and manned a booth, distributed literature and captured

email addresses Printed $1,200 + in signage that you see displayed in the front and back of the club announcing open houses. Handed out 1,200 flyers house to house along North and South River roads, Loti View, Huron Point and Venetian Shores. Placed ¼ full color adds in “The Journal” and Macomb Daily before both open houses. A few

thousand dollars Open house Sunday April 28 was held Looking forward to May 10th open house.

So far the results of all these efforts are approximately 10 new members with prospects for 5 to 8 more. This is definitely a work in progress and we are initiating new programs now that the weather has broken.

The cost to the club as been $1,000 for the booth at Cobo Hall. Everything else has been donated by generous members of our club some that have donated money and others stuffing flyers and yet others that walked subdivisions and delivered flyers in mailboxes.

From the Buoys Belles Secretary, Marcia Miller

All of the ladies of the Buoys Belles want to take this opportunity to personally thank Our President, Karen Rae for her diligence and leadership in completing our Turning Point Project. She maintained the balance required to finalize an effort as lengthy and Organized as the future of many moms and their children. The people at Turning Point Were so appreciative of our accomplishment that they invited Karen and another Belle to a guest luncheon and grand tour of the facility. The privacy of these moms And kids is so crucial to protect them from their abusers and it certainly was quite an Honor to be personally invited there. Be sure to ask Karen about her experience when You see her at the club. What a TESTIMONIAL!!!!

We are getting ready to stand tall and show our support for our club at the Flag Raising taking place on May 18, 2008. Our attractive girls dressed in our Buoys Belles outfits always brings a tear to my eye. We are America and the Home of the Free. It is a very touching day to be represented by our ladies and our passed members. Our new Members’ Party will take place on July 12, 2008 and will carry the ever Favorite PIRATE THEME. More on this later. We have some volunteers already Working on the decorations and games. We are also in the early stages of having a breakfast at the club prepared by our members In the early part of June. It will be as good as our Easter Bunny breakfast and would Like to see many members in attendance. Please look for more information on this big event.

OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE ON June 5TH AT 7:P.M. PLEASE MARK THIS DATE ON YOUR CALENDAR.
