SIREN
Direct from the Commodore… July tiki parties have been great. The people that have stepped up and sponsored these parties, I thank you for doing an exceptional job. For the members that have attended these parties I also what to thank you for it shows me that we (the Mariner’s) are coming together with one common goal. Keeping the Club afloat. At the next Board meeting we will have 4 new members to vote on. Each month we vote in 3 to 4 new members. I know it’s a slow process but we are gaining. Keno at long last is in sight. The club has been inspected and monitor placement Commodore
is established. We are waiting for the State to have a separate phone line in-John Leslie stalled and we are ready to go.
L&R Catering and I had a meeting last week and with common consensus have decided to terminate our food management contract. A committee has been established to interview new prospects for our food management services; the committee’s intent is to have our perspective Carters prepare our meals for a week and have the club members grade their performance by survey. L&R Catering is giving the Mariner’s 30 days before leaving, if we all do our jobs the transition
should be a smooth one. The members wish Laura and her crew the best.
Summer sure is going quickly. Hope everyone is enjoying it. We want to welcome all the new members who have recently joined. We are certainly glad to have you aboard and look forward to seeing you at the club. There have been some great Tiki Parties this month. Much thanks to all: the Buoys Belles for hosting the New Members party; Barb Hanley, Barb Burns, Barb Couto and their crew for the awesome steak dinner Tiki Party, and Tony Rea, Lisa Zerilli, Sharon and Mark
Malispina , and Lisha and Travis for hosting the Margaretville Tiki Party at the end of month. We really appreciated the hard work and all the effort you extended to make these parties successful. Check the calendar because August as well has almost a party every weekend. So, don’t miss out on the fun. The economy is quite tight right now and many of us don’t have a lot of extra money, which may be a factor with some of the members not coming out to the club. We really do miss you and therefore are trying to come up with ways to help out. Tickets for parties are being kept to a minimum and drink special are available. If you have any other suggestions please let us know. The Members of Mariner’s would like to sent our deepest sympathy to Stephanie, one of our bar
maids, for the loss of her father. Our prayers go out to her and her family. We also want to extend
our appreciation to Stephanie, Misty, Christi and Mary for the great job they do at running the bar
and serving our members. During the summer months it gets quite busy and hectic at times behind
the bar and we just ask for your patience during these times. Any concerns that you have regarding
available products, service or any other issues related to the bar please instead of addressing the
bar maids with these issues contact me or leave a note behind the bar and I will get back with you.
Thanks. Continued

Speaking of products, the bar has just added Labatt NA. This is a very good Non Alcoholic Beer, try one. I would like to thank Jim Addey donating the Humidor behind the bar. I would like to thank Tony Rea for his help in choosing cigars, ordering them and taking care of the Humidor.
Mariner’s is made up of a great group of people and with out these people Mariner’s wouldn’t exist. We would love to have more people involved in the operation of the club. As we all know it takes much time, money and effort to run this club. There are many talented people here that have skills that could be useful in helping this club be more successful. We are undergoing some trying times, especially financially, which according to the senior members is nothing new. So, I’m confident if we all pull together we will make it work. It takes much more than the Flag and Board to run this club. These volunteers have families and jobs outside this club and sometimes are not always able to fulfill all the responsibilities by themselves for these positions. Yet, all these responsibilities need to be fulfilled for the club to function adequately. Therefore if you can help out in some way-decorating for or organizing parties, cleaning up around the club, helping with the newsletter, helping with membership campaigns, painting, upcoming Board and Fleet position for November, organizing committees to handle some of the responsibilities etc., then please let us know. Years ago each member had scheduled worked hours and at this point we are trying to rely on volunteers. Unfortunately, we require more, because we’re trying not to burn out the ones we have. Thanks for you support.

SEE YOU AT THE CLUB!
| Flabbergasted by the Fleet Don Ruma... We’re half way through boating season … for those of us that keep our boats in until late October. It’s been a good summer so far, and there’s plenty of boating and good times ahead! August will be a busy month, with lots of fun activities planned. Even though the Boat Town USA Parade of Lights was cancelled, we had a great turnout for the Open House on the 2ND of August. The crews that helped out did a great job … the couples at the Tiki Bar, the folks on the corn cooker and the barbeque. Hats off to all of you, and special thanks to the Rear Commodore for pulling it all together. The Lake St. Clair Raft-Off will take place in Muskamoot Bay on August 9TH . Even though the event isn’t officially sponsored, it still promises to unofficially break the world’s record. We’re planning to fill the club later in the afternoon with a Tiki Bar party when the Raft-Off breaks up. The August rendezvous to Sarnia will take place regardless of the participation. Denise and I will head up on August 15TH, and we look forward to seeing anyone who can make it. Thus far there is just a small group, so we will likely cancel the outing to the Hiawatha Horse Park. However, there are plenty of other fun activities available in the area, and Sarnia Bay is a beautiful marina. Mariner’s Dinghy Run is scheduled for August 23RD . Notice that participation is limited to 150 people this year, so get your registration into Clair St. Louis early to reserve your spot. As always, this promises to be a memorable event. Finally, we’ll be wrapping up Mariner’s 2008 traveling season with the Frostbite Rendezvous at St. Clair Municipal Marina on September 19TH–20TH–21ST . The marina will only guarantee a limited number of wells, so remember to sign up early and to call the marina well in advance to hold your well. Don Ruma Fleet Captain | |
